Having low female libido could be very frustrating for a woman; it can also affect a couple’s relationship as well. It is important to understand that a woman may feel a decreased sex drive as her hormones fluctuate in a monthly pattern. There are also causes of low female libido namely:

Illnesses – there are certain medical conditions that can affect a female’s sex drive. Hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, arthritis and cancer are just some of the many illnesses that may lower female libido.

Infertility – treatments or medications for infertility affects a woman’s sex drive, even after the treatments are over, her appetite for sex may not return until after quite some time. The thought that you may never be able to bear children can also affect a woman’s libido as well.

Medications – there are prescription drugs that may cause low female libido. These drugs are often classified as antidepressants, medicine for hypertension, chemotherapy drugs and antihistamines. A woman’s sex drive may return after discontinuing these medications but it has to be consulted first to the prescribing physician.

Alcohol – alcohol is a known libido suppressant. A little wine may increase a person’s sex drive but too much may totally knock you out.

Hormonal – the low levels of estrogen during menopause may cause low libido in women. During this time, sex may be painful due to dryness of the vaginal walls. If combined with a decreased estrogen levels a woman may totally have no interest in sex at all. Some women may not have this condition at all and may even enjoy satisfying sexual intercourse even after menopause is over.

Pregnancy – a pregnant woman may feel lack of sexual desire on the initial trimester of pregnancy. This is due to hormonal changes plus the easy feeling of fatigue and heaviness which can also contribute to a woman’s low libido. The fact that a woman may perceive intercourse as a way to hurt her baby can also add to a decreased sexual desire. Breastfeeding may also cause low libido and this is also due to the psychological and physical pressures of caring for a new baby.

Stress – there are many psychological stressors that can contribute to a woman’s decreased desire for sex. Depression, anxiety, decreased self esteem and a history of previous sexual abuse may dampen a woman’s sex drive. There are many other stressful situations that can cause low libido and this must be addressed as soon as possible for a woman to recover from her stressors as well as return her sexual drive.

These are just some of the ways that can cause low female libido. There may be other causes like issues within a couple’s relationship that has to be resolved first before they can bring back the intimate feeling that they once shared. Conflicts, fights, infidelity and miscommunication can all contribute to low female libido. These issues may only be resolved with the help of an expert relationship or marriage counselor.
